Rowsom Family

The first European settlements in Ontario were after the American Revolution when 5,000 loyalists left the new United States.

John Rowsome was born about 1777 in Ireland. He was the son of Samuel Rowsome and Deborah Tackaberry.

He married Alice Ayer.

William Rowsome (1804, married Rebecca Bates),
Henry Rowsome (1806),
Alice Rowsome (1812),
Margaret Rowsome (1815, married George Davis), and
Richard Rowsome (1816, married Sarah Rath).

He died in 1817 in Ireland.

That same year, Alice, emigrated to Ontario with her children. They settled in Leeds County, Ontario.

The Battle of the Windmill was in November, 1838. Loyalists defeated an invasion attempt by Hunter Patriots, led by Nils von Schoultz, who were attempting to overthrow British rule. The battle was at a windmill two miles east of Prescott.
